Troubleshooting FAQ

Because the software is new, some virus scanners will incorrectly identify the LumaMap .exe installer as a virus, even though it is safe (false flag).

The .exe installer for LumaMap has been reviewed by Windows analysts and confirmed as non-malicious, so malware definitions should start to reflect this in the coming months.

If you are seeing a false flag, your options are either to whitelist the application and proceed as normal, update to the latest virus definitions or wait until your virus scanner stops identifying the application as malicious.

This happens when you try to open an app that isn’t registered with Apple (from an “unknown developer”).

Right-click on the LumaMap icon, select Open, and click Open. Read more detailed instructions here

The app is saved as an exception to your security settings, and you can open it in the future by double-clicking it just as you can any registered app.

If you are unable to import video files, please install the K-Lite Codec Pack from this website. Click “Server 1” under Download. When the download is complete, open “K-Lite_Codec_Pack_xxxx_Basic.exe” and follow the installer instructions.

Quit and re-open LumaMap.

If you are on Windows, this is likely because your display is scaled. LumaMap works best when your Display Scale is set to 100%.

Read this guide on how to set your Display Scale to 100%.

Go to Output>Choose Display and make sure that Monitor 2 is selected in the list. If there is no Monitor 2 listed then LumaMap has not successfully detected your projector. Make sure your projector is connected properly with the correct cables and switched on.

AI actions in LumaMap cost credits i.e. generating an AI image and upscaling an image.

The software comes bundled with 1000 credits. 1000 credits gives you 1000 AI generations using standard diffusion models (fewer if you choose XL models). You can use these up as quickly or slowly as you like. There is no daily limit and they don’t expire.

If you use up your 1000 credits you can purchase more from DreamStudio, instructions here.

Read more about credits here.

In principle you can project on any surface with LumaMap, but some surfaces are more suitable others.

LumaMap works best when the projector is close to perpendicular with the projection surface and there is not too much perspective in the reference photo you import into the software.

So it might be that you need to try again from a new projector position, using a reference photo containing less perspective.

This error is most likely caused by LumaMap not having been installed correctly. Specifically, Mac users must move LumaMap to their Applications folder and not run the application from the installation folder itself. Follow the instructions in the pop-up window and drag the LumaMap icon into the Applications folder.

Some of the AI diffusion models are very fussy about the inputs they accept. This error means a particular model didn’t like the size of the image it received. We are working to improve this situation. As a workaround, you can try other diffusion models (select another model from the Model dropdown list e.g. Stable Diffusion v2.0, v1.5 etc).

You will receive this error if your prompt contains words that DreamStudio deems sensitive. This can include pornographic, gory or prejudiced terms and also includes words relating to children.

Don’t worry. Like with most tools, getting to grips with the AI image generator takes a little knowledge and practice.

We’ve put together a guide to help you level up your image generation game and get the best AI results out of LumaMap.

The AI generator will use whatever is in the canvas as an input. This includes previously generated AI images that have been loaded to the canvas. Don’t forget to Unload the AI image from the canvas if you want the generator to use your original imported image and artwork as an input.

This might happen if you are using v1.1.0 of LumaMap which utilizes AI models which have been deprecated by Stable Diffusion.

It’s recommended that you update to v1.2.0.
